Dr Lesley Perman-Kerr B.Sc., Ph.D., C.Psychol., AFBPsS

Chartered Psychologist, HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.

Lesley is a Consultant Practitioner Psychologist who has been in private practice for 22 years, specialising in psychological trauma and combining clinical practice with critical incident consultancy. She is HCPC registered and a Chartered Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She holds Security and Enhanced CRB clearance.

Lesley is additionally qualified in EMDR treatment for psychological trauma (levels 1 and 2), Yoga and Mindfulness for Mental Health, Clinical Hypnosis and completed a 4-year training in Jungian Analytical Psychology.

As a specialist in trauma, Lesley has consulted to the UK Special Forces, The Metropolitan and regional Police Forces, the foreign bureaus and news teams of a major media organisation, NGO and UN staff, emergency services, serving armed forces and security personnel contracted to hostile environments, survivors of 9/11, the 7/7 London bombings, the December 2004 Tsunami, the November 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. She has assisted in over 40 international kidnap/piracy incidents.

One area of particular interest is the development of a positively oriented brain. Cutting edge research in the field of neuroscience has shown how yogic breathing and mindfulness, combined with yoga asana discipline, benefits mental health and enables the brain to function better during and post-trauma.   Mindfulness training has also had significant impact on the self-esteem and functioning of clients with Asperger Syndrome and SpLDs helping them to reduce stress levels, better focus attention, deal with sensory overload and become more self-aware.
